Abrasive Wheel Training
This course is designed for anyone who uses abrasive wheels or works near those who do, helping individuals understand their responsibilities under workplace safety laws. It is suitable for both users and managers and is now available as a classroom-based course or as an online course, offering greater flexibility in how the training is completed.

Training can be delivered at one of our instructor centres, arranged onsite at your workplace, or completed online at a time and pace that suits the learner. The course helps meet the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), which state that all staff using abrasive wheels must be properly trained in their safe use, including changing wheels. It also supports managers in understanding their responsibilities under these regulations.

Recent updates to the General Product Safety Regulations (2005) and new codes of practice extend training requirements to those involved in the consumer market, including individuals who manufacture, specify, purchase, sell, supervise, or use abrasive wheel equipment.

The course covers key regulations, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992, and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

Abrasive wheels are used across a wide range of tools and processes, from hand grinding to disc cutting, and at various stages of a job such as cutting, polishing, or finishing. Each wheel has specific characteristics, strengths, and hazards, making it essential to select the correct wheel for the task and use it safely with the appropriate equipment.
