Choking Awareness and First Aid Training
This course provides essential knowledge and practical guidance on recognising, preventing, and responding to choking incidents in adults, children, and infants. Learners will explore common choking hazards, scene safety, and effective prevention strategies to reduce risks in everyday settings. The course also covers the anatomy of the respiratory system, step-by-step responses to choking emergencies, and a short introduction to CPR techniques. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with the confidence and skills to act quickly and appropriately when faced with a choking emergency.
The content of this and all our courses has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines and come with a Certified CPD Statement as well as a ProTrainings Certificate and for online courses an Evidence Based Learning statement.

Identify common items and foods that present choking hazards for adults, children, and infants.

Demonstrate awareness of safe eating environments and practices to reduce the risk of choking.

Apply effective choking prevention strategies, including safe preparation of food for different age groups.

Explain the process of swallowing and how the respiratory system functions during normal and obstructed breathing.

Recognise the signs of choking and the difference between mild and severe airway obstruction.

Respond appropriately to choking incidents in adults, children, and infants using correct first aid techniques.

Perform basic life support actions, including a short version of CPR, if the casualty becomes unresponsive.
