Emergency First Aid for Therapists (VTQ) – Course Overview

This accredited qualification is designed specifically for professionals working in therapy, wellness, and beauty environments who may need to respond to medical emergencies in the workplace. The course provides learners with the essential skills and confidence to manage a range of first aid situations safely and effectively.

Course Aims:

To enable therapists to recognise life-threatening conditions, respond promptly in emergencies, and deliver effective first aid care until professional medical help arrives.

Learning Outcomes:

Learners will understand how to:

  • Assess an incident and ensure scene safety.

  • Conduct a primary survey and place a casualty in the recovery position.

  • Administer CPR and use an AED (defibrillator) correctly.

  • Recognise and treat common medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, diabetic issues, anaphylaxis, asthma attacks, seizures, and shock.

  • Control bleeding, manage burns and scalds, and deal with fractures and eye injuries.

  • Recognise when to call for emergency medical services and provide accurate information.

  • Maintain good hygiene, use barriers safely, and prevent infection during first aid.

Practical Skills Covered:

  • CPR for adults and children

  • Using an AED

  • Managing choking

  • Treating bleeding and shock

  • Using an auto-injector for anaphylaxis

  • Recovery position and illness assessment
