Supports learners to recognise and support mental health issues in the workplace.
This qualification is designed to give learners the knowledge and understanding needed to recognise when someone may be experiencing a mental health issue and to provide appropriate support in a workplace setting. It supports the role of a Mental Health First Aider and is also intended to help employers meet responsibilities linked to the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
The course helps learners build an understanding of mental health and mental ill-health, the impact poor mental health can have on the individual, others, and the organisation, and the importance of reducing stigma and promoting supportive conversations. It also covers workplace responsibilities, including relevant considerations around equality, health and safety, and data protection.
Learners will develop awareness of a range of common mental health conditions and how to support somebody who may be affected. The content includes recognising and supporting individuals experiencing psychosis, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, as well as understanding harmful coping strategies, including eating disorders, and how to recognise and support somebody who may be in suicidal crisis.
This is a Level 3 Award with 12 guided learning hours, 15 total qualification time, and a validity of 3 years. Learners must complete the single mandatory unit, Undertaking the Role of a Mental Health First Aider, and the qualification is graded pass or fail.
The content of this and all our courses has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines and come with a Certified CPD Statement as well as a ProTrainings Certificate and for online courses an Evidence Based Learning statement.
