BTEC Level 4 Certificate for First Person on Scene (RQF) is the latest qualification launched in 2017 by Pearsons. FPOS Basic, Intermediate and Enhanced do not exist anymore and it has been replaced by a new regulated version. We also offer the full FROS course via our sister company ITG Instructor Training.

ProTrainings or ITG do not deliver the practical part, so you will need to source this by contacting an external provider approved by Pearson.

This course includes the latest CPR and Coronavirus recommendations.

Completing your FPOS course in a blended format allows you more time to concentrate on the practical modules in the classroom and it cuts your classroom time down and still meets the course standards. This course is ideal standard or the extended versions of the BTEC Level 4 Certificate FPOS, as a refresher or just to learn more about advanced first aid.

The new FPOS qualification leads itself to blended training very easily. With the ProTrainings online part you will complete a series of videos, knowledge review questions to test your understanding and a short online test.

The First Person on Scene FPOS course is designed for those involved in providing initial emergency care, for example, Community Responders, Fire and Police Officers, personnel involved in the security industry, senior cabin crew and industrial first aiders.

Taking the first aider on to the next level, topics in this course include pre-hospital assessment, respiration and airway management, circulation and shock and trauma-related injuries, medical emergencies, cannulation, fluid therapy, spinal immobilisation.

Delivered by experienced medical professionals with front-line experience this qualification is endorsed by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (Edinburgh) and is certified through Edexcel. Level 4 First Person on Scene (FPOS) is fully accepted by the Security Industry Authority. The qualifications and any additional Units are valid for a period of 3 years. Periodic re-training and assessment for both the practical skills and supporting knowledge will, therefore, be required.

The course is available in two versions, this the extended certificate and the standard certificate covering fewer subjects. There are no pre-requisites for this course, however, first aid knowledge is recommended.

This course is also an ideal standalone video online course to improve your first aid knowledge and understanding.

The content of this and all our courses has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines and come with a Certified CPD Statement as well as a ProTrainings Certificate and for online courses an Evidence Based Learning statement.

This course can be completed as the online part 1 of a 2-part blended course. After completing this online course, you may find and attend the classroom-only part 2 course and cut down on the number of days spent in the classroom.

The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Extended Certificate for the First Person on Scene is for learners who work in, or who want to work in, the pre-hospital care industry as first responders. Learners will normally be employed as, or looking to apply for jobs as, a first responder in a primary care role. However, in some cases, learners may be acting as a first responder as part of a secondary role in an industry which requires first responders to have a greater breadth of knowledge and skills that are provided by first aid qualifications or the Pearson BTEC Level 4 Certificate for First Person on Scene.

The qualification gives learners the opportunity to:

  • Develop knowledge related to the pre-hospital care industry, including how their role fits into the wider sector as well as the responsibilities of the first responder, established practices relating to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults, as well as the prevention and control of infection
  • Develop technical knowledge that underpins the role, duties and responsibilities of the first responder. This covers areas such as the management of scene safety, the clinical care and management of the casualty, the provision of effective clinical handovers to the next echelon of care, as well as the post-incident procedures for which the first responder is responsible
  • Develop practical skills of safe incident management and managing the care of causalities while awaiting the arrival of definitive pre-hospital care
  • Develop knowledge to and expertise to be able to make critical decisions and medically manage the safe extrication of casualties
  • Achieve a nationally-recognised Level 4 qualification
  • Develop their personal growth and engagement in learning.
