CPD Certified Training Approved by Skills for Care

Abrasive Wheel Training

This classroom-based course is designed for anyone who uses abrasive wheels or works near those who do. It helps individuals understand their responsibilities under workplace safety laws and is suitable for both users and managers.

Training can be delivered at one of our instructor centres or arranged onsite at your workplace.

This course helps you meet the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), which state that all staff using abrasive wheels must be properly trained in their safe use, including changing wheels. It also supports managers in understanding their responsibilities under these regulations.

Recent updates to the General Product Safety Regulations (2005) and new codes of practice now extend training requirements to those involved in the consumer market, including individuals who manufacture, specify, purchase, sell, supervise, or use abrasive wheel equipment.

The course covers key regulations, including:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998

  • Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992

  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

Abrasive wheels are used in a wide variety of tools and processes, from hand grinding to disc cutting, and at different stages of a job—whether it’s cutting, polishing, or finishing. Each wheel type has specific characteristics, strengths, and potential hazards.

That’s why it’s essential to select the correct abrasive wheel for the task and use it with the appropriate equipment—safely and correctly.

The content of this and all our courses has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines and come with a Certified CPD Statement as well as a ProTrainings Certificate and for online courses an Evidence Based Learning statement.
